Georges Binet is best known for his harbor views, market subjects and landscapes from Normandy and Brittany.

Originally from Le Havre, the painter first studied with Lhuillier and then moved to Paris, where he attended the workshops of Louis-Joseph-Raphaël Collin and Fernand Cormon. After this academic training, the painter turned to the circle around Boudin, Pissarro and Monet.

With this influence he increasingly developed a characteristic Impressionist stroke technique, with which he was very successful both in Paris and at exhibitions in the provinces.

Binet was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor on January 29, 1937.

The Musée Malraux in Le Havre preserves several of his works.

Artist dictionaries: Thieme-Becker, Schurr-Cabanne, Bénézit, Saur.
